Brihaspati is Brahmin by birth and is four armed. He sits on a lotus and wears a yellow cloth. His chariot is drawn by eight yellow horses. He is very fond of yellow sweets. His favourite colour is yellow and so Yellow Sapphire or Pukhrajis his preferred gemstone. The preferred metals of the planet Jupiter are also yellow coloured metals like copper and gold. Pitambar or yellow colour is what Lord Vishnu wears and he is the presiding deity of Planet Jupiter. One must offer yellow flower, yellow fruit and yellow sweets to Lord Vishnu. Even donating gold, turmeric, yellow gems, honey, yellow clothes to Brahmans and gurus is considered to be auspicious and brings luck and prosperity. Even feeding yellow bananas and yellow sweets to animals like cow and birds pacifies the wrath of Brihaspati.
